6th Grade:

Unit:  Foresnic Science
Activities:
  • CSI Online - students become virtual crime scene investigators taking on the various jobs in the forensics field.  Here they answer questions, apply their knowledge, and discover clues to solve different types of cases (Critical Thinking)
  • Anatomy - Students learn about the parts of an organ.  For this year, we are studying the eye.  This is important because it is a major organ of the body, and has an appropriate amount of parts and descriptions for students to learn and apply their knowledge to their own lives (Collaboration, Critical Thinking)
  • Dissection - To compliment the anatomy piece, students dissect a cow's eye. This is because a cow's eye is similar in parts and structure to the human eye.  Students will take what they learned about eye anatomy and apply it to the cow eye throughout the dissection (Critical Thinking, Communication)
  • Logic - Students use deductive reasoning skills to put together stories based on clues and deduction skills (Critical thinking)
  • Students invent the next generation of CSI tools using a Model Magic medium (Creativity)
